I took the Tailwind Challenge in September 2014. Having got my initial Challenge order from Alex at Tailwind Nutrition Sweden I was so impressed with the product I asked Jenny and Jeff Vierling, the founders of Tailwind Nutrition, if I could distribute the product in the UK. Thanks to word of mouth, recommendations and continued growth in the US I was quickly able to set up UK distribution, adding myself to the group of successful distributors in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, South Africa and Hong Kong.

INGREDIENTS

Dextrose (Glucose), Sucrose, Sodium Citrate, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Organic Flavour, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Citrate

CAFFEINATED FLAVOUR INGREDIENTS (RASPBERRY BUZZ, TROPICAL BUZZ, GREEN TEA BUZZ)

Dextrose (Glucose), Sucrose, Sodium Citrate, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Organic Flavour, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Citrate and anhydrous caffeine (70mg in a 2 serving stickpack).

Each serving is 100 calories.

For endurance workouts, mix the stickpack with 24 oz (700ml) of water per hour. Adjust to your personal calorie needs during training, using hunger as a guide. When it’s dialed in, you’ll feel satisfied and energetic, not hungry or full.

On hot days, keep the same calories per hour, but increase water. To use in combo with other foods, reduce Tailwind intake by the calories you’re consuming elsewhere to avoid overloading the gut. For shorter workouts (<2hr), you can use less Tailwind to taste.

Amazing
Monday, 11 December 2017  |

I first had Tailwind during the Centurion NDW50, and then promptly bought some to use during all my subsequent long races, including a 70 and 100 miler.

For me, I'm OK to eat while I race without any problems, but I still like to use Tailwind as it takes the complexity out of planning my nutrition. I can sip Tailwind on the way round and then eat at checkpoints, and I should never run out of calories and should avoid flagging. It's worked so far and I have no intention of trying to run a long way again without it!

Tailwind all the way.
Monday, 3 July 2017  |

Read all the reviews, listened to friends and took a gamble and used it for the first time on the Outlaw Holkham half ironman, had a gel on the bike and a gel on the run as I was concerned being totally reliant on something I'd not tried in training before. Honestly don't think I needed the gels, felt strong, felt fuelled, didn't run out of energy despite racing hard. That was no fluke. I'll continue to use Tailwind. Thankyou! 🏊🏼🚴🏽🏃🏼💨

It really works !
Monday, 29 May 2017  |

I used tailwind (naked) yesterday for the first time in a race after testing half stick packs previously in training, just to make sure I had no ill effects.
This race just happened to be my first 50k. I hadn't gone further than 18 miles previously, plus I had struggled to get any decent weekly mileage in, but I finished in under 6 hours ! I used a whole stickpak in 700ml of water that I sipped before starting, then finished during the 1st two hours, topping up with water & mouthfuls of flapjacks at the first couple of aid stations, I then used another half a pack for the remainder, also following the above method ( I only had the half left over).
I had no hunger issues, no cramp, which I usually suffer pretty badly from & felt really good all the way through the race apart from an IT band issue toward the end due to under-training.
I have some big obstacle races coming up later this year (Relentless suffering & Spartan Beast) & I shall be using tailwind to get me round 100%, I would highly recommend trying tailwind if you haven't already !

Im a convert!
Wednesday, 5 April 2017  |

After trying the multi stick pack I've now settled on the natural and tropical flavours as my favourites. Once again the service and speed of delivery was excellent, Mike and team have it so right here. I've now used it regularly on 3+hr sessions, it has kept me feeling well fuelled and not hungry. It has settled really well on my stomach. (The only thing I'm thinking on is the best way of carrying measured servings for mid training refills, rather than buying additional stick packs.) As training moves up to 6hr sessions this week I have every confidence Tailwind will see me through.

I tried these as the stick multipack and was immediately converted. Not too sweet and sickly and no tummy trouble at all like I've had with gels and sports drinks.
I love the lemon & raspberry buzz and have ordered them as multiserving sets this time.
My order was delivered next day and the customer service is second to none with a good luck message for my next race and my name on all my products.
I've used this to fuel for races up to 50miles and would recommend 100%.

Really like this, I used it for the first time on my C2C run and once I got the balance right it was superb, I must have run most of the day supplementing it with a handful of brazil nuts (really, thats all I needed). It was easy on the stomach and kept the hunger at bay without compromising on energy levels - I knocked nearly 2 hours off last years time and much of this can be credited to Tailwind. You have a new fan.

tryed allot, found what I needed
Tuesday, 2 August 2016  |

I tryed allot. I tryed gels, bio gels, shot blocks, bars, energy pouches and various powders and all in someway gave me discomfort. I still use energybars but only to not feel empty in the stomach. I have used tailwind for cycling short and long distance, my first 58K trailrace, marathons, a 560k relays race from Paris to Rotterdam and various other outings. Not once have I experienced stomach issues or discomfort in any way. The longest period of time I have used the product for was around 40 hours without issues. Flavour is something to debate and is very personal but I do not find them overly strong or chemical. Berry for the win!

I recommend trying a few flavours and start with a small amount of powder and work up from there to find what works best for you. I also recommend wide mouth bottles and flasks for easy refill.

Endurance Fuel
Wednesday, 27 July 2016  |

The initial personal service was great. The fuel powered me 80% of the way round the Buff Epic 105 km Sky race without any gut issues or energy lows. The only frustration was getting the powder into my bottles whilst racing.

Dextrose (Glucose), Sucrose, Sodium Citrate, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Organic Flavour, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Citrate and the caffeinated flavours (Raspberry Buzz, Tropical Buzz and Green Tea Buzz)  contain anhydrous caffeine (70mg in a 2 serving stickpack).

Sodium: Maintains Fluid Balance

Sodium is needed in the body for a number of reasons, the most important for endurance athletes is its role in the maintenance of extracellular fluid volume which influences the hydration of an athlete.

It is also important for the uptake of nutrients such hexose (carbohydrate) and amino acids (protein).

During extended periods of exercise it is important that sodium levels are replenished. As the bodies sodium concentration falls ECF (extracellular fluid) falls which can have detrimental effects to the bodies cells. Physiologically this will present as dizziness and faintness.

Sodium Citrate: Stops Cramps

Sodium citrate is added to the Tailwind Nutrition products to act as a pH regulator. When the muscles are working for extended periods of time, muscle pH will decrease and cramps take effect. The role of sodium citrate is to delay the effects of this lowering pH and prevent the build up of lactic acid in the athletes muscles to help reduce cramps and allow them to run, cycle or row for longer.

Potassium: Stops Muscle Weakness

Potassium is essential for the acid-base regulation and to maintain the electrophysiology of nerves and muscles. A deficiency in potassium (caused by prolonged sweating during physical activity) can alter the electrophysiological characteristics of cell membranes causing weakness of the skeletal muscles.

Carbohydrates and sugar (present as glucose and sucrose): Energy Provider

Sugars and soluble carbohydrates are fundamental for providing energy for the maintenance of life. During exercise sugar in its simplest form of glucose is fundamental for the ease of metabolism into expendable energy.

Calcium: Strong bones and Muscle contraction

Calciums primary role is structural, around 99% of calcium is found in bones and teeth. A prolonged calcium deficiency will increase the risk of low bone mineral density and stress fractures in athletes. It is also an essential mineral for muscle function and contraction as well as being essential for synthesis and breakdown of glycogen fuel stores in your muscles.

Magnesium: Relaxes Muscles

Magnesium works closely with calcium, while calcium is important for the contraction of your muscles, magnesium helps them relax. Therefore, it is clear how important the combination of both calcium and magnesium is for healthy muscle function.
